Link in Bio for Authors: Sell Books and Grow Your Reader List
Readers find authors on Instagram, TikTok, Threads and in podcast interviews. The link in your bio is where a curious reader becomes someone who buys the book, joins your list or comes to an event. Here's how to set it up.
What an author's page is for
- Sell the book: the current or newest one first.
- Build your reader list: the readers who'll buy the next one.
- Everything else: backlist, events, press, contact.
Make buying easy
Readers buy from different places. Rather than one "Buy" link, give the main options on one short list:
- Your main retailer
- An independent bookshop option, if you have one
- The ebook and audiobook, if they're separate links
Give a free sample
A free first chapter turns a maybe into a reader. Link to it near the top:
- "Read chapter one free"
- "Listen to the first 10 minutes"
Grow your reader list
Your newsletter is how you'll sell the next book. Give it a real spot, second or third on the page, and a reason to join:
- "Get a free short story when you join"
- "Hear about new books first"
- "Monthly letters about what I'm writing and reading"
Events, press and contact
- Events: book launches, signings, festival talks. Remove them as they pass.
- Press kit: your bio, author photo and book details, for interviewers and bookshops.
- Contact: for rights, speaking and media. A contact form (LiteLinks Pro) keeps those messages out of your DMs.
Launch week
Change the page for a launch:
- Before: pre-order link at the top, with a countdown to publication day.
- On the day: swap pre-order for "Out now". On Pro, a scheduled link can switch over at midnight.
- After: add reviews or a "What readers are saying" link, and keep the buy link at the top for a few weeks.
Look like your books
Match your page to your covers: colors from the artwork, a font that fits the genre. Every theme, font and color on LiteLinks is free.
Check what readers tap
After a few weeks, look at which links get tapped. If the sample gets far more taps than the buy link, readers may need to try before they buy, so keep the sample near the top.
